At The Con-nection, we have been so eager to share a little secret with you.
Over the last few months, I have been designing my own dress (yes, you heard right, my OWN design, eeep) in collaboration with one of our favourite labels Asilio. Talk about a dream job hey?!
You all know that we are drawn to pieces with a minimal edge, We are all about clean lines and tailoring so it fits like a glove. We love a classic look and making it modern.
I had all this in mind when designing my dress, as I wanted the dress to be a true reflection of my style and what Michelle and I love to wear. I wanted to also incorporate some of my favourite spring season elements such as lace, moulded fabric and the off-the-shoulder neckline.
You can’t go wrong with lace, I went for a reformed lace of linear lines (that wasn’t too thick or bulky as sometimes I feel that some lace can add unnecessary bulk to our body) this lace ties in with the cut-out feature under the bust
The fit of the dress was so important to me, we see so many different styles every day at The Con-nection so I was very picky in the structure of the dress, so we included boning and a bonded moulded fabric around the neckline to ensure it sculpts the body perfectly and sucks you in.
I love a strapless neckline as I think it suits lots of different body types- when I was pregnant (and breastfeeding) my chest area was huge and I noticed the high-necklines that I used to love to wear, no longer worked, so that’s why I went for a style that suits all sizes and shapes.
My favourite feature of the dress is the architecture of the low back with two linear straps that hold you in so you don’t need a bra while wearing it- winning!
We hope you love the dress as much as we do, we think it's perfect for any spring event, be it the races (hello Derby Day with a big structured black hat!!) birthdays, hens days and the Portsea Polo. It’s a versatile piece that you can dress up or down for any occasion.
* A little note, if you are like us and also have a strong attention to detail you will notice the triangle detailing under the bust is larger on the model, this is because she shot in an earlier sample. We fixed this to make it smaller so the fit is more sculpted and also looks better as you will notice of my images in the dress.
